About the Heritage Language Resources Hub
In order to support maintenance and development of adult migrants’ mother tongues/heritage languages, resources, particularly reading materials, are needed in a wide range of languages. This online resource hub provides links to sites around the world that have made available digital reading materials. The Hub is dedicated to languages that are less widely spoken, or more dispersed in the diasporas, and do not have literature that is easily accessible to these adult learners. The web sites (which belong to non-profit organizations) provide access to a range of easily downloadable materials in hundreds of languages spoken around the world. Most of the materials are free, some are available for a small fee.
While most of the materials are written for children (unless otherwise stated in the description), some are for adolescents and adults. They provide valuable resources for reading together in families.
Take a look, use these materials with the learners you are working with, encourage them to use them themselves and with their families and children, and let us know if these are helpful. Suggestions for improving this collection of links are very welcome. You can write to joy@peytons.us with any suggestions or questions that you have.
