LESLLA Winners Harold B. Allen award 2023 from MinneTESOL

Last week, our own LESLLA Past-President Andrea Echelberger received a prestigious award from the Minnesota TESOL affiliate for outstanding service to the field of TESOL. Nominated by Patsy Egan, Ph.D. Egan, the first President of LESLLA, Andrea received the Harold B. Allen award from MinneTESOL.

Harold B. Allen was a noted linguist at the University of Minnesota and a founder of International TESOL in 1966, and each year an award is given to a Minnesota English language educator to honor this connection. More information here: Harold B. Allen Award – MinneTESOL

Andrea joins a long line of extraordinary educators who received the Harold B. Allen Award for their many contributions to the field of English education. In particular, Andrea was nominated for her work for LESLLA teachers and learners, trauma informed instruction, pronunciation teaching, and professional development for adult educators across the state and the nation. Congratulations, Andrea!

We also extend our congratulations to Erin Cary. Erin is a longtime teacher and advocate for LESLLA learners. She represented the collective, #IamABE, for their advocacy efforts on behalf of adult education in Minnesota. Another well-deserved award, the Mary Diaz Award for Advocacy!
